Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing, browsing, or using this Website in any way, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, and all applicable laws and regulations. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Ottawa Carpenters, a division of Justyn Rook Contracting, a sole proprietorship operated by Justyn Rook ("we," "us," "our," or "the Company").

IMPORTANT: Ottawa Carpenters and Justyn Rook Contracting are sole proprietorships operated by Justyn Rook. All references to "the Company," "we," "us," or "our" include Justyn Rook as an individual. All liability protections, indemnification provisions, disclaimers, and limitations in these Terms apply equally to and protect Justyn Rook personally, in his individual capacity, and all personal assets.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time without prior notice. Your continued use of the Website after any changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms. It is your responsibility to review these Terms periodically.

These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Website.

2. Nature of Services and Content

2.1 Informational Purposes Only

ALL CONTENT ON THIS WEBSITE IS PROVIDED FOR GENERAL INFORMATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. Nothing on this Website constitutes professional contracting advice. Always consult with qualified professionals for your specific situation.

2.2 No Professional-Client Relationship

Use of this Website does not create any professional-client, contractor-client, fiduciary, or advisory relationship between you and Ottawa Carpenters or Justyn Rook Contracting.

2.3 Safety Disclaimer

REMOVING WALLS, CUTTING FRAMING AND BUILDING STAIRS INVOLVE STRUCTURAL AND SAFETY RISKS. Information provided on this website or through Carpentry IQ is not a substitute for checking with the City of Ottawa, a design by a qualified, registered designer (BCIN), an engineer or an architect, or the advice of a qualified contractor. Never remove or cut into a wall, beam, post, joist or stud until you know what it carries. The City of Ottawa lists adding or removing walls as building permit work. Walls and floors can hide wiring, pipes and ducts. In an older home, old paint and plaster can contain lead or asbestos: test before you disturb them. General Carpenter is a non-compulsory trade in Ontario, and we found no City of Ottawa carpenter licence, and this website does not verify the training, coverage or credentials of any contractor. If you smell gas while opening a wall or floor, leave the building and call emergency services from outside. Nothing on this website states whether any person or company is licensed, insured or qualified.

2.4 Building Code, Permits, Heritage and Site Conditions Disclaimer

BUILDING CODE, PERMIT, HERITAGE AND SITE CONDITIONS ARE SPECIFIC TO EACH HOUSE. What a wall carries, the framing behind the finishes, the age of the house, any heritage designation and what the City will ask for vary from house to house in Ottawa. Information on this website about the Ontario Building Code, building permits, beam design, heritage rules, materials and costs is general and may not reflect your situation. Building Code figures are quoted from the 2024 Ontario Building Code and can change by amendment. Too few Ottawa carpentry prices are published to give fair ranges, and nothing on this website is a quote. Always obtain written quotes, confirm permit, design and heritage requirements with the City before work starts, and have old paint and plaster tested before anyone disturbs it.

3. Carpentry IQ (AI-Generated Content)

By using Carpentry IQ or any AI features, you expressly acknowledge and agree that you use AI-generated content entirely at your own risk and will not rely on AI content for any decision without independent professional verification.

4. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL OTTAWA CARPENTERS, JUSTYN ROOK CONTRACTING, JUSTYN ROOK (INDIVIDUALLY), OR ANY OF THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AFFILIATES, LICENSORS, SERVICE PROVIDERS, CONTRACTORS, INTERNS, SUPPLIERS, OR SUCCESSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES.

Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed CAD $100.00.

5. Intellectual Property

"Ottawa Carpenters," "Justyn Rook Contracting," "Carpentry IQ," and related logos and marks are trademarks of Justyn Rook Contracting. All content on this Website is protected by Canadian and international copyright laws.

6. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
